Writing a country song is much like writing a fiction novel. They can be totally made up or there may be an element of reality spiced up with imagination. My 2nd CD release which will be added to this site very soon is titled "Mostly Fiction" which is a very fitting.
Gospel songs on the other hand are based on truths found in God's Holy Word, the Bible, and the wonderful changes that come into your life when you have received Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. My country gospel songs will be added to this website soon.
Country Hoedown
(2009 est) This was my very first recorded song. I was playing around with with a keyboard that I found stored under the guest bed and realized that it had a vast library of drum accompaniment. I listened to every variety and found one drum beat that sounded like it originated in the hills of Arkansas. I started thinking about how country folk used to gather together on their front porches to sing. They would bring all kinds of musical instruments of which many were home made. They used the old wash boards to keep time like we use a metronome. Anything that would make a musical sound was played. Wash tubs, spoons, jugs, mouth harps, guitars, banjos, fiddles, and many more. They would play and sing and have a great time. I started playing my guitar along with the drum accompaniment and started making up lyrics. I had a great time and this song was the result. I wonder what would happen today if we invited all the neighbors over for a singing on the front porch? Don't forget to bring your spoons and some sweet iced tea!!!
Crazy Over You
(2016) This is a very short love song. Only 51 seconds. I was practicing a set of chords on the guitar that I thought were very beautiful and made up lyrics for this song to fit the chords. The song was so short I tried to create a 2nd verse, however, I could not add anything to the lyrics. This short song says it all. Anyone who has ever fallen in love can surely identify with these lyrics so I decided that it would be fine just like it is. Short and sweet!
I Believe In Love
(2013) A country song with a gospel/inspirational influence. Love, marriage, and family are not ideas that came by chance. All have God as their author. God works in our lives, call it destiny. I believe in destiny, I believe in family, I believe in you and me, I believe in love.
I'm A Simple Man
(2016) The star of this song is not concerned with fame and fortune. He lives a simple unassuming life and is looking for a real relationship based on true love. If the rich city girl really loves him, love will conquer all and they will live happily ever after enjoying a simple country lifestyle!
I'm Still Havin Problems Moving On
Break ups happen. Some have a hard time moving on with their life. The memories haunt their mind. I am sure many will identify with this song.
Mister Right
(2015) All the gals are looking for "Mister Right". This guy observes his love interest stumble through one relationship after another and hopes that one day she will realize that he is Mister Right. I wrote this song after overhearing someone ask if a certain girl was married yet. The friend replied, "No, she's still looking for Mr. Right".
Most of All, Be Free
This song is intended to be a tribute to those who have served, sacrificed, and died in our nations armed forces. Our freedom is a direct result of their service. The greatest way to show our gratitude for our military is to make sure that we stay free. We must always be vigilant to teach our children and grandchildren the importance and price of liberty!
One Look, One Smile, One Touch
I wrote this song as a tribute to my wife in celebration of our wedding anniversary. What started as "one look" became love and a family. Using this song as background music I created a DVD photo slideshow of our life together. The song highlights the progression of a relationship from the first look. You can download this song and make your own slideshow. What a great anniversary gift!
One More Time
(2016) This song was inspired by my father and mother who are both in their 90s. They live in the same large assisted living facility but are in separate rooms. The rooms are in separate wings of the building and it is a long journey to be able to visit one another. My father can barely get around by himself but looks forward to each time he can manage to see my mother again! It is a blessing to see how they still greet each other with a kiss! As I wrote this song I envisioned blowing out 90+ candles on a birthday cake and making a birthday wish for just one more time together. It would be very difficult to blow out all those candles to insure that the wish would come true.
The Candle Song
This song is about loss and reflecting on how things used to be. A candle is lighted and as each drop of wax falls it brings back a memory of that one loved and lost.
That's One Lucky Dog
(2015) The idea for this song came while viewing a picture taken by a woman with her dog. The woman was very beautiful and was snuggled up close to her dog while taking the selfie. Both the woman and the dog looked very happy. My typical male reaction was to think "that is one lucky dog"! I immediately thought this would be a great song subject and I wrote the lyrics to this song.
We Are Together
(2014) This is a wedding song. It chronicles the step by step events of a wedding ceremony highlighting the bride and grooms anticipation of finally being together. I have always enjoyed weddings and I enjoyed writing the lyrics and recording this song. I must admit that on more than one occasion I have found myself a little misty eyed when sharing in such a joyous occasion with family and friends. Finding true love is a very special thing. "And now abideth faith, hope, and love, these three; but the greatest of these is love". (I Corinthians 13:13)
Yes, This Is Love
